Anantnag man accuses Army of ruthlessly beating him; Police registers FIR

  • ​Anantnag, Feb 13: Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered an FIR against the soldiers of 19 Rashtriya Rifles for ruthlessly beating a 30 year’s old cab driver on Sunday evening in Shangus area of Anantnag district.According to Police FIR, Driver-Masood Ahmad Shah s/o Ghulam Qadir Shah Resident of Kotheir-Nowgam village of Shangus Anantnag- was thrashed and ruthlessly beaten by the soldiers of 19Rashtriya Rifles in camp at Kothier Shangus.“I had a minor brawl with my colleague who is also a driver. Locals of that area intervened and we soughtout the issue but at around 7pm in theevening when I was at Andoo Sumo Stand and was moving towards my residence a group of soldiers kidnapped me along with the vehicle and took inside me in camp,” the driver told in police complaint.Victim alleged that he was ruthlessly beaten till late night and somehow hisfamily managed to free him from the clutches of army men. “’They threatened to kill me if I approached police,” driver has said in the complaint.Police sources said that very often, army hires the vehicle of the driver with whom the victim had scuffled.They said that police took cognizanceof the incident after receiving written complaint from the victim driver and have registered an FIR 9/2017 u/s 341, 342, 323 and 506 against unknown army soldiers of 19 Rashtriya Rifles.Locals have hailed the immediate action of police and demanded swift action against the erring soldiers.
