A traders’ body in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has called for a shutdown in the town tomorrow to protest against the alleged use of excessive tear smoke shells by government forces during protests which they said triggered fire in the market.
Hakim Sajad Ahmad, spokesperson Lal Chowk Traders Association, said the strike has been called against the forces’ highhandedness.
He said that fire broke out in a godown in the congested Reshi Bazar locality after a shell fired by the government forces landed there during protests after Friday prayers.
The fire, he said, destroyed several godowns in the area. Meanwhile, fire tenders are trying to douse the flames.
